New Volkswagen ID.7 Targets 435-Mile Range

Volkswagen has finally unveiled its new sleek electric saloon that targets a range of 435 miles on the Pro S trim.

The brand-new ID.7 will carry an 86kWh battery which, when coupled with its slick 0.23 drag coefficient, could provide an electric range comfortably over 400 miles. For now, though, the 435-mile figure remains just an estimate.

Debuted at VW’s Wolfsburg headquarters on Monday, the slippery saloon measures 496cm long and will launch this summer.

Volkswagen claims that the ID.7 will be its first MEB-based EV to utilise a highly efficient electric powertrain, meaning that the car could be a glimpse into the manufacturer’s long range future.

On the outside, VW has opted for a fairly conservative design, keeping the saloon clean and simple. The front end is closed off with a lightbar connecting the two headlights and the roof comes in a contrasting colour along with the door pillars.

At the back, the LED lighting gets a little more creative with a full-width light bar that appears white until lit.

Inside the ID.7 is a 15-inch touchscreen and a small digital instrument cluster. Accompanying the cluster will be a standard augmented reality head-up display that’ll be able to make it seem as if the driving info is being projected onto the road in front of you.

An optional panoramic roof will also be able to switch between transparent and opaque at just the click of a button.

Full specifications are yet to be released along with pricing, although it is predicted that the ID.7 will come in with a starting price of around £50,000.
