New Volkswagen ID. Buzz LWB Has Seven Seats

Volkswagen’s retro EV returns with a longer wheelbase that has seven seats.

The ID. Buzz was first released last year as a 5-seater MPV and Cargo van. The new ID. Buzz LWB has a stretched body that can house a bigger battery as well as an extra row of seats.

The LWB model’s wheelbase measures 3,239mm - 250mm longer than the standard version. This increase has also made the body longer at 4,962mm.

The standard ID. Buzz LWB will get the same 77kWh battery that you’ll find on the other Buzz models. However, the extra space does mean that there will be an option for an 82kWh unit, which VW are yet to disclose range figures for.

A new drivetrain system also means the big battery LWB model will give you more power. Drivers will get 285bhp and 560Nm of torque from a rear-mounted electric motor.

An unchanged 12.9-inch touchscreen retains its spot in the cabin alongside a 5.3-inch driver display and VW’s latest infotainment system. Climate control buttons are now backlit too so you’ll be able to see them better in the dark.

The LWB allows for three different seating layouts. You can have a 5-seat layout with 2 in the front and 3 in the back, a 6-seat layout with 3 rows of 2 or a 7-seat layout with a middle row of 3.

Boot space varies depending on the layout you choose. With 5 seats you’ll have 1,340 litres of space and with 7 you’ll have 306 litres. Owners can also remove all of the rear seating for a van-like load bay of 2,469 litres.

UK specs of the new Volkswagen ID. Buzz is still to be decided, but it’s expected that the EV will arrive in Europe early next year and will most likely cost more than the current Buzz models which start at £58,915.
