New ID.2all Concept

The new ID.2all concept previews Volkswagen’s upcoming electric hatchback which will be a smaller and more affordable version of the popular ID.3.

The latest concept showcases VW’s new design strategy that’s said to include a ‘friendly face’ and a ‘confident smile’. The exterior shape shares many similarities with previous Golf and Polo models.

A front-wheel-drive MEB Entry platform with a 223bhp electric motor underpins the new concept. This would allow for a swift 0-62mph of around 7.0 seconds.

It is believed that the German carmaker is looking for a range that’s around the 280-mile mark with a 58kWh battery. A smaller 38kWh battery could also be an option. Its top speed will be limited to 99mph with DC fast charging compatibility.

The concept measures at 4 metres long, 1.8 metres wide and sits on 20-inch wheels. This makes it slightly shorter than the current Polo whilst having a longer wheelbase for extra interior room. Volkswagen is aiming to make the EV “as spacious as a Golf and as inexpensive as a Polo”.

On the inside, there’s seating for five with a boot that has 490 litres of space. A 12.9-inch infotainment screen comes with more physical buttons to put to rest criticisms of tricky slider controls.

There’s also a 12.9-inch digital cockpit screen, augmented by a head-up display as well as two wireless charging smartphone pads.

Volkswagen hopes to get the ID.2all into production in 2025, with a starting price under €25,000 (£22,000).
