Vauxhall Corsa tops UK sales chart

The Vauxhall Corsa maintains its status as the UK’s best-selling car as it leads new car registrations so far in 2022.

New data released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) shows the Corsa (29,342) in first place just ahead of the Nissan Qashqai (29,334) in second.

The Ford Puma trails in third (27,680) ahead of the Kia Sportage (24,301), MINI (23,161) and Hyundai Tucson (22,688) in fourth, fifth and sixth.

The best sellers in the month of September this year tell a different story with the Corsa failing to make the top ten. The Qashqai is top (9,311), followed by the Tesla Model Y (8,315) and the Volkswagen Polo (6,476).

This September also saw a 4.6% increase in new car registrations over September last year. 225,269 new cars were registered last month compared to 215,312 the year before.

Electric vehicle sales also continued to increase. September had the second highest monthly volume of battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations in history (38,116), which is up 16.5% from last year.
