New Volvo EX90

Once the Volvo EX90 goes on sale in early 2024, it will be one of a few fully electric seven-seaters available on the market in the UK.

The EX90 arrives as the replacement to the long-running Volvo XC90 and becomes the Swedish carmaker’s flagship SUV. The brand-new model shares lots of hardware with the latest Polestar 3 including its new pure-electric SPA2 platform.

At launch, there will be two twin-motor versions available. The standard EX90 gets an output of 402bhp with 568lb ft of torque and a 107kWh battery capable of going 364 miles on a single charge.

The Performance EX90 gets an increased output of 510bhp with 671lb ft of torque and the same 107kWh battery which now offers 360 miles on a single charge. Both trims have a limited top speed of 112mph. Less powerful single-motor models will most likely follow.

250kW DC fast charging capabilities means that the EX90 will be able to charge from 10-80% in just 30 minutes.

Volvo's new electric styling language, which we’ve already seen displayed on the C40 Recharge, carries on over to the new EX90. What helps make this EV stand out though is the sheer amount of tech it contains. Volvo views the EX90 as an advanced computer on wheels.

It has a range of cutting-edge cameras, radars and lidar (as standard) all connected to an NVIDIA DRIVE core computer to help the vehicle build a 360-degree picture of its environment. This awareness of the world around it makes the EX90 one of the safest cars on the market.

Its high-tech sensor system can also detect driver behaviour too to ensure you don’t fall asleep behind the wheel. If in a worst-case scenario, you do fall asleep, the EX90 is able to drive you to a safe stop and call for help.

The tech doesn’t stop there, inside the cabin you’ll be greeted by a 14.5-inch Google-based touchscreen and 25 integrated Bowers and Wilkins speakers spread around the cabin. You’ll also be able to use your smartphone as a key and the EX90 will save and load up your specific preferences upon entry.

When the EX90 goes on sale, the entry car will be £96,255 and the Performance will be £100,555. However, Volvo will likely introduce a much cheaper model not long after launch.
