MG has confirmed that an XPower version of its budget MG4 EV is on its way, making it the brand’s most powerful production vehicle yet.

The electric hot hatch will be priced from £36,495 and it’ll be displayed at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed alongside a new 'EX4' concept.

What sets the new XPower model apart from the other MG4 derivatives is its dual-motor setup with a total of 429bhp and 600Nm of torque. This is twice the amount of power that the Long Range trim offers which means the XPower can go from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds.

To improve its handling capabilities, the suspension of the regular MG4 has undergone a 25% increase in stiffness. This improvement is achieved through the installation of new anti-roll bars, along with recalibrated springs and dampers. According to MG, the XPower variant also offers a sharper steering experience.

For enhanced braking performance, the hot hatch features new ventilated 345mm disc brakes. These brakes contribute to a 62-0mph stopping distance of 33.9 metres.

Despite utilising the same 64kWh battery as the Long Range trim, the XPower’s range takes a hit due to the added performance. Expect this new sporty derivative to travel around 239 miles on a single charge. 150kW rapid charging compatibility means you’ll be able to top up from 10-80% in 35 minutes.

The exterior has undergone several subtle changes to signify its added electric performance. These changes include orange 'XPOWER' brake calipers, a two-tone black roof, 18-inch alloy wheels and a new Racing Green colour option.

On the inside, there aren't too many differences. You'll find the same 10.25-inch touchscreen alongside Alcantara sports seats.
