BYD Atto 3 to begin UK sales in coming weeks

Chinese carmaker BYD is set to make its UK debut with the all-electric Atto 3 SUV.

UK sales of the Atto 3 are set to begin in the coming weeks with pricing likely to be in the region of £35,000.

The mid-size electric SUV will be a cost-effective alternative to the Volkswagen ID.4 and Kia Niro EV when it arrives. The car has already been on sale elsewhere in Europe with a €38,000 price tag.

It might not be the most exciting car to look at, but the Atto 3 does come with some stylish touches. A sporty lower bumper, silver trims and a rear full-width light bar give the SUV a premium feel.

The BYD badge is missing from the rear, with the inspirational words ‘Build Your Dreams’ taking its place.

A considerable 60.4kWh battery provides 261 miles of range, not quite as much as other rivals in its bracket and just short of the MG ZS. Rapid charging capabilities also mean that you can charge the Atto 3 from 30% to 80% in just under half an hour.

A 201bhp single motor that powers the front wheels is enough for a swift 7.3 second 0-62mph time and an array of hi-tech features such as lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert and blind spot monitoring makes driving the Atto 3 a breeze.

If the Atto 3’s price, specs and exterior design haven’t won you over, then the interior just might. A premium cabin with a two-tone colour scheme features interesting shapes and distinctive soft-touch textures.

A rotating 12.8-inch touchscreen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto takes centre stage in the middle.

BYD has other vehicles it's looking to integrate into European markets too. The Han saloon and the Tang seven-seat SUV are both cars that could theoretically end up making it to the UK, especially if the Atto 3 proves successful.
