New Peugeot 308 hatchback set to arrive in 2021

In late 2021 the third-generation Peugeot 308 hatchback is due to arrive, with it hitting the roads in 2022. It comes with much excitement after the most recent generation that was released in 2014 achieved the title of 'European Car of the year'.

The latest model will come with a new design and many new features. It will feature a sleek, sharp design along with a modernised cabin with digital upgrades setting it apart from some of Peugeot's older models.

The hatchback will explore a new front for Peugeot too, with fully electric and plug-in hybrid versions both being considered. The head of electric vehicles, at Peugeot’s owner, Groupe PSA, has been quoted explaining that the new 308 will be flexible for families as the new generation will be for buyers of plug-in, fully electric, petrol and diesel. Anne-Lise Richard stated that “The 308 can be produced on both platforms – e-CMP and EMP2” and that there is room for both PHEV and EV technologies for customers.

Peugeot has already revealed that the 355bhp 508 Sport Engineered saloon and its 1.6-litre petrol-electric powertrain could slot straight into the 308 if needed and is very likely to include a more economical version of the 1.6-litre plug-in hybrid system. Automatic versions are also likely to gain the new electrified dual-clutch transmission developed by Punch Powertrain for its launch in 2022.
