The Chinese marque is finally set to explore UK markets with its Funky Cat model.

The move comes after increased interest in the new EV. ORA UK has already taken more than 6,000 registrations of interest and plans to start sales in autumn this year with deliveries following soon after.

In the meantime, ORA hopes to establish a network of retailers across the country and will set up an ‘ORA Online’ sales platform where their products can be bought.

The First Edition is the first derivative that’ll go on sale, this holds a 48kWh battery that’s capable of providing 193 miles of non-stop driving. A bigger 63kWh battery Funky Cat is also in the works.

Adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera, a 360-degree top-down camera, LED headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels all come as standard on the First Edition. Heated seats and wireless smartphone charging are just a few of the gadgets available to passengers too.

Built upon Great Wall’s bespoke electric platform, the Cat measures 4,235mm long and 1,825mm wide. This makes the Funky Cat similar in size to EVs such as the Volkswagen ID.3.

ORA claims that a 169bhp motor mounted to the front axle helps the car go from 0-62mph in just 8.3 seconds.

On the inside, you’ll find a 10.25-inch infotainment system and dashboard panel that are both mounted together into a 20.5-inch unit.

The Funky Cat, which was previously named the Cat 01 when on sale in China, will be available for purchase in four colours. The exterior styling shares similarities to MINI and Porsche vehicles.

Vice President of Great Wall Motor, Mr Yao Fei said: “The UK is a key launch market for the GWM ORA brand and I look forward to launching our first product, the ORA Funky Cat, later this year. As a new disruptive EV brand, we will offer customers high-quality products, with a unique design that will bring a fresh new look to European streets.”

Pricing is set to start at £30,495 after the government grant has been deducted.
