New Kia Niro facelift

The Kia Niro has received a new update that sees bold styling changes bring the popular crossover in line with Kia’s latest vehicles.

This most recent facelift will bring the Niro into only its second generation, which will continue to be offered with hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrain options.

From a design perspective, much of the styling has been sourced from Kia’s 2019 HabaNiro Concept. A reshaped C-pillar and ‘tiger face’ grille targets improved aerodynamics and efficiency.

The Niro adopts a strong and rugged 4X4 appearance with a two-tone paint scheme and boomerang-shaped rear lights.

Further innovations to improve the vehicle’s efficiency includes a new “Greenzone” system that uses data from the navigation system to change between combustion and EV power on the plug-in hybrid variant.

This means that the Niro can move over to EV power when passing ‘green zones’ such as schools in an effort to improve air quality.

It’s also likely that a 1.6-litre petrol engine will be used on the Niro. However, it probably won’t be as powerful as the 261bhp Sportage PHEV engine.

The Niro’s new interior will largely consist of recycled materials and the dashboard has been redesigned with a centre console and an electronic gearshift dial.

The new Niro is expected to hit UK markets sometime next year. Kia should reveal pricing details and launch date details in the coming months.
