New Fisker Ocean

The new Fisker Ocean has made its European debut at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, with UK pricing being confirmed this week.

The American carmaker first revealed the Ocean last year at the Los Angeles motor show. The new electric SUV will be produced in Austria before arriving in UK markets next year.

Fisker’s entry-level Sport trim starts at £34,990 and comes with a 275-mile range, 17.1-inch touchscreen, sky roof, cruise control and automatic headlights too.

The mid-range Ultra trim houses a ‘hyper range’ battery that bumps up the Ocean’s range to a mighty 390 miles. This will cost buyers an extra £14,000.

The flagship Extreme trims will cost £59,900 and come filled with a whole host of special features as well as Smart Traction technology that helps the SUV feel more like a sports car and improves its stability, especially in rough weather. Wireless phone charging and a 360-degree camera provide extra luxury too.

A full-length SolarSky roof is another premium feature that allows the car to generate solar energy for added electric range. The SolarSky can produce up to 1,500 emission-free miles per year and can open up alongside the other windows when the vehicle is in California mode.

A total of 543bhp on the Extreme trim allows the Ocean to complete 0-62mph in just 3.6 seconds, which Fisker say is "better than a Ferarri".

When creating this latest EV, Fisker's designers aimed to combine the driving features and aesthetics of a sports car with the practicality and size of an SUV. Pumped-up wheel arches and a flat floor gives the Ocean streamline aerodynamics and an athletic appearance.

The interior makes use of recycled materials like plastic bottles and old T-shirts. Using sustainable materials helps to reinforce the Ocean's clean and modern appearance.

There should be plenty of boot space on the current models too as Fisker has not yet ruled out adding an extra row of seats on future variations of the vehicle. If carrying longer luggage, the rear window can also be opened up to provide extra space.

The Ocean represents a new era for the Fisker brand who are already working on a Fisker Pear SUV as well as other more expensive models that should be seen in the next few years.
